Future Outlook
Since
the 22 village's project started Red Lodge has gone from strength to strength,
especially with the opening of the new Millennium Centre in December 1999(a
grant of over half a million pounds was received from the Millennium Commission,
with like funding being made up by FHDC, local developers and Mr Derek Cooper).
The new centre is helping to develop a greater community spirit, employment
opportunities and varied facilities from a bar to a library. We are now able to
hold many new clubs, classes, meetings, conferences, weddings and dances (things
that we could only dream of a few years ago).
Other highlights include the continuing clearing of the lake area with the
help of some of the villagers. In November and December 1999 villagers put pen
to paper to voice concerns over a prospective landfill site at neighbouring
Kennett. On March 22nd 2000 Red Lodge hosted BBC Radio Suffolk's Gardeners
Question Time. Recently we entered Suffolk's Village of the Year competition.
In the future we look forward to the proposed housing development on Turnpike
Road, Warren Road and the Village Centre, and the new facilities this will
provide, especially our own school.
